Group Exercise Practical Submission – Zoom Session Guidelines
This page provides instructions for students participating in the Group Exercise Practical Assessment via Zoom.
It outlines the session structure, including warm-up delivery, main conditioning and cooldown segments, peer and assessor feedback, and question time.
The guide also includes preparation tips for both delivering and observing students, covering technical setup, camera positioning, lighting, and safety space requirements.
Students are advised to rehearse their session plan (from Activity 2), use an interval timer app, and prepare progressions and regressions for exercises to accommodate all participants.
Session Flow
- Introduction & Ground Rules – Led by the assessor.
- Warm-Up Delivery – Each student will deliver their warm-up in turn (approx. 5–7 minutes each).
- The assessor will provide immediate feedback after each warm-up.
- Main Conditioning & Cooldown Delivery – Each student will deliver their full session in turn:
- Student 1 – 35 minutes
- Feedback: 5 minutes (peers first, followed by assessor feedback)
- Student 1 – 35 minutes

- Feedback: 5 minutes (peers first, followed by assessor feedback)
- Student 2 – 35 minutes

- Feedback: 5 minutes (peers first, followed by assessor feedback)
- Student 3 – 35 minutes
- Question Time – Observing students will have the opportunity to ask questions about the session delivery to support their own preparation.
Guidelines for Observers
- Actively participate in and learn from the sessions delivered by your peers.
- Take notes during each delivery and prepare any questions for the designated question time.
Important Information for those Students Delivering
- During the group Zoom session, you will:
- Deliver your practical assessment to peers.
- Actively participate in their sessions as a group member
- Select session plan #1 from Activity #2 (A group of mostly female adults wanting to improve their cardiovascular conditioning
- Ideally, design this session as a bodyweight-based session or one that can be easily adapted to bodyweight.
Preparation Tips for those Delivering
- Set up your space
- Clear enough room to move safely (ideally, where your whole body can be seen on camera). You will need around 2-3 square metres of clear space.
- Good lighting from the front/side so the assessor can see your form (avoid strong backlighting from windows).
- Place your camera at about hip–chest height and far enough back to capture full standing movements.
- Check your tech
- Test your Zoom audio/video in advance.
- Make sure your device is fully charged or plugged in.
- Position your camera so you don’t have to adjust mid-assessment.
- Prepare equipment (if required)
- Have a yoga mat handy if you know they might be used.
- Download the following app
- Interval timer or HIIT app
- Keep a water bottle and towel nearby.
- Prepare for your session
- Practice your full session several times beforehand to ensure confidence, smooth delivery, and correct technique.
- Prepare both progressions and regressions for each exercise to accommodate participants of different abilities.
- Practice using the interval timer or HIIT app to help structure your timing and keep the session running smoothly.
