How do I apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?

How to apply for RPL and what to expect from the process.

Onfit Training College offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to students on a topic-by-topic basis for your fitness certificate/s. If you have existing skills, knowledge, or experience relevant to your course, you may be eligible to apply.

Once you begin studying a topic, the RPL option is no longer available. If you intend to apply for RPL, do not commence the topic until your application has been assessed.

Steps to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning:

  • Step 1 — Review the RPL information for your topic

Within your online course, each topic contains an RPL section within the Topic Overview tab, which appears at the start of every topic on page 2.

Read through this information carefully before proceeding, as it outlines what evidence and experience is required for that specific topic.

  • Step 2 — Review the learning outcomes

Within the RPL section of the Topic Overview, review the listed learning outcomes for that topic. These will help you determine whether your existing experience and evidence is sufficient to support a successful RPL application.

  • Step 3 — Complete the RPL Self-Assessment

If you believe you meet the requirements, use the RPL Self-Assessment link found on the Topic Overview page to complete the self-assessment quiz.

Upon completion, you will be advised whether you have passed and are eligible to proceed with a formal RPL application.

  • Step 4 — Complete your RPL Application (if self-assessment passed)

If you pass the self-assessment, the RPL topic will be opened for you. You will then need to complete four sections (A, B, C, and D), providing evidence to support your application.

RPL can save you time, but keep in mind that gathering evidence can be just as time-consuming as completing the topic through study. It's worth applying if you have current, relevant industry experience and can provide sufficient evidence but if you're unsure, you may be better off completing the topic through the standard pathway.

  • Step 5 — Awaiting assessment outcome

Once you submit your evidence, an Onfit assessor will review your application and mark it as either Satisfactory or Not Satisfactory. You will receive clear feedback, including any requests for further evidence if required.

What if I don't pass the self-assessment or my application is marked Not Satisfactory?

No problem, you will simply continue with that topic via the standard learning and assessment pathway.
